Donate Now/ How You Can Help

Families typically attend an average of 12 sessions per year, with a cost of approximately $60 per session, which amounts to a little over $715 per family per year. Since we do not charge families a fee for counseling services, we are dependent upon community and grant support of this very important program. You are essential to allowing us to provide families a place of hope!

The Amelia Center can now accept Credit Card Donations. Click Here to get started.

Sponsor a Dinner
On the second and fourth Monday of the month, we have a bereaved parent's support group "The Compassionate Friends" meet at The Amelia Center. The Compassionate Friends is a national nonprofit, self-help support organization that offers friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. A casual dinner (for 12 to15 people) which precedes the meeting is brought in or financially sponsored by individuals. The approximate cost for this sponsorship is $65.

Help Support Children's Memorial Crafts
We approach our grief work with children in a child-friendly way. When working with children either in groups or individually, we are activity-centered. Working on a craft allows a child to not only memorialize their loved-one, but it is also a way to engage a child in a way that is comforting and familiar to them. A child who feels safe, is better able to express their thoughts and feelings about their grief journey.  A few popular crafts include decorating a "memory box", making a cement stepping stone, and creating a memory book.

In order to keep our supplies in stock we frequent: Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, AC Moore, The Home Depot, Lowe's,  The Dollar Tree, and Oriental Trading Company. Gift cards are always appreciated and are well used. We also have a printed "Wish List" of specific supplies we use and need.

Contribute to Our Library
Part of the mission of The Amelia Center is to educate the families who come here about how grief is a normal reaction to change and loss. In an effort to support grieving families, we are constantly looking to develop our library of grief-related books. If a particular book has helped you on your grief journey, please consider donating a copy to our library in honor or memory of a loved one.

We would love the opportunity to share with your group about this "hidden gem" in the community. Contact Matthew Bunt by
Email or (205) 251-3430 to learn more about how your organization can help provide a place of hope for families in our community.

Host a Fundraiser
Many groups hold their own fundraisers, including dances, bake sales and home tours, to benefit The Amelia Center.  You can encourage your faith community, place of work, child's school as well as civic organizations to which you belong to hold a fundraiser to benefit The Amelia Center.  This is a great way to provide much needed funding to The Amelia Center, while promoting good-will, philanthropy & volunteerism among those with whom you worship, work & live.

Event Sponsorship
Your company can sponsor one of many fundraising events that The Amelia Center holds throughout the year.  This is a great opportunity to show that your company is an active civic partner.  Sponsorship packets are available upon request.

Host a Social Gathering
Contact several of your closest friends and family to attend a dinner party or social gathering in your home.  Inform them that you will have someone from The Amelia Center share briefly about their services at some point during the evening to enlist their support.

Matching Funds
You could double your contribution to The Amelia Center through a matching gift from your company.  Many companies offer matching funds to charitable organizations who have received donations from one of their employees.  This is a powerful way to increase your donation and the visibility of your company.  When making a gift to The Amelia Center, ask your supervisor if your company has a matching gift program.

Bequest
Most of us would like to make a substantial gift to our favorite charity, but need the funds available to us for everyday expenses.  However, through a bequest you could make a commitment to give a major one-time gift to insure the financial future of The Amelia Center.  You can name The Amelia Center as a beneficiary in your will and avoid some estate taxes through an estate tax charitable deduction.  Contact your financial advisor to find out more about leaving a gift to The Amelia Center in your will.
